
That means body-part splits, working a muscle group once per week, doing isolation exercises and using machines.
It’s all useless for the genetically average, drug- free lifter. The pros use upwards of $80,000 per year worth of steroids and have better muscle building genetics than 99.9% of the planet.
They succeed in spite of what they do, not because of it. Following their workouts will only lead to soreness and frustration. But no additional size and strength.
To make gains you need compound exercises, shorter workouts and more frequency per muscle group.
That also means that techniques like drop sets, strip sets, super sets and pre-exhaustion are utterly useless. Getting a pump is simply a temporary swelling of the muscles due to blood being trapped inside of them so you only look bigger during the workout, but you don’t build any true, lasting size.
Following the typical bodybuilding prescription of 10-20 sets per body-part and 10-15 reps per set will get you nowhere.
If you want to get big you need to move some weight, not simply toy around with dumbbells your grandmother could use.
Supposedly this prevents the body from ever having a chance to adapt. This is complete nonsense.
Adaptation is the key to muscle growth. If the body doesn’t have sufficient time to adapt to the training you will never get any bigger or stronger, you will simply just keep getting sore.
To build muscle you need a scientifically mapped out program you can follow and allow your body to adapt to while getting progressively stronger over time.
The truth is you need an optimal combination of all three components in your program in order to elicit the fastest muscle gains. Volume needs to be calculated on a weekly basis instead of daily, as so many people make the mistake of doing.
Frequency is more important than anything else but if there is too much intensity or volume you’ll be dead in your tracks. If you can find that fine line, however, you will have hit the Holy Grail of muscle building.
